Aggregation done by a CMS

Widgets and Social Gadgets

The extreme versatility of Digital Experience Manager's presentation layer allows to seamlessly deliver components from multiple sources and multiple formats in the context of a page: internal content stored within Digital Experience Manager, within other repositories or databases, AJAX widgets (for example, Google Maps) to expose distant apps or services as well as social gadgets (for sharing to Twitter, Facebook, etc.) can live in the same page regardless of the underlying technology, and can be manipulated effortlessly in a unified experience. Your teams do not need to learn the specifics for each type of content they have to manipulate - they just do so intuitively.

Portlets are small standalone Java applications that can be inserted into web pages. They are mostly used to access legacy systems and for portal projects. If your organization has massively invested in portlets in the past decade, Digital Experience Manager supports them, giving you the ability to keep your investment and reduce time-to-market for your projects. You do not need to re-code from scratch and you can re-use existing portlets. From the feedback of our community, it is clear that our Digital Experience Manager Modules technology is far more flexible and easier to implement, deploy and maintain as compared to portlets: this is why most of our customers integrate their business applications with Digital Experience Manager using portlets when legacy requires it, and with Digital Experience Manager Modules for any other scenarios.
