Problem with jahia6 on Ubuntu 10.4 - Socket bind failed: [22

by  lunang »  2011/06/07 20:57

Hi,
Am trying to install jahia 6 on ubuntu 10.4.
I adjusted the JAVA_HOME in jahiaInstallation.sh script. When running it, everything seems to work fine. in the terminal i got :

-- JAHIA Edition 4 Startup Script --------------------
Verifying environment...
Current directory is /opt/jahia_v6CE
JDK found.
Catalina environment seems clean...
Tomcat environment seems clean...
Starting JAHIA Edition Database and Web Server...
Using CATALINA_BASE: /opt/jahia_v6CE
Using CATALINA_HOME: /opt/jahia_v6CE
Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /opt/jahia_v6CE/temp
Using JRE_HOME: /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun
-- done. -------------------------------------

But when trying http://localhost:8080/config in my browser, i got an error message. The server seems not working. I checked the logs of catalina.out and found this :

    Hello,

you are facing the Tomcat Native library bug in Ubuntu with IPv6, as described in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/ sour ... bug/287645

Please read the comments in that ticket and try upgrading the tomcat-native library to the version that fixed the issue (I guess, this is in tomcat-native 1.1.16).

    Kind regards
    Sergiy

    Hello,

the Jahia 6 bundles the Tomcat version 6.0.18.

According to the Tomcat changelog the issue was addressed in 6.0.19:

43327: Socket bind fails when using APR on a system with IPv6 enabled but no explicit IPv6 address configured. (markt/jfclere)

    Kind regards

    Sergiy

    Hi Sergiy,
Thanks for ur answer. I changed the tcnative library to the version 1.1.20 available in tomcat.6.0.19 but i always got the same error. What changes should i make in my apache ?

I have tried it for 5 days now and i seriously think to switch to another CMS as just the installation phase of jahia doesn't work for me.

    Thks

    Hello,

as written in the Tomcat change log, the problem is related to the fact that IPv6 is enabled on your machine, but no explicit IPv6 address is configured. And Tomcat prior to 6.0.19 cannot handle this misconfiguration gracefully.
On our side I have verified it once again. I am running Windows 7, but other colleagues of mine are running Ubuntu 10 with Jahia 6.0 with no problem.

    Possible solutions are:

    1) "Tell" Tomcat to use IPv4 stack by adding the following JVM option to CATALINA_OPTS (catalina.sh):

    -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true

    2) You explicitly assign IPv6 address for your machine

    3) You disable IPv6 on your machine completely

Please let me know if this helps.

    Kind regards

    Sergiy
