Install on Linux with no GUI

by  phronexia »  2011/06/11 08:34

Hi all,

I'm new here in the Jahia Community and new on Jahia too... (but not new to conception and programation : C, C++, PHP, Javascript, a bit of Java --noob in Java at this time but I learn very fast--, and some other 'exotics' languages)

I installed successfully Jahia 6.5 on my local PC (Windows7 / 64bits) with the installer and the basics settings (DB Apache Derby), to have a look at it ... First of all I like it !!! It's a great peace of work you've done guys, thanks a lot ! But now it's time for questions.... :

I'd like to install Jahia 6.5 on a remote server Debian 6 (64bits) (Squeeze) with Apache running (some PHP sites are here) and an already running Tomcat 6 and I also need to use Jahia 6.5 with a MySQL Database...

I access the server via SSH console so no GUI here. I suppose there's a way to install Jahia 6.5 in this case, but I can't find out any kind of 'step by step' installation for these type of configuration...using only the command line...

I need some help here... Is there some documentation, posts or something I can refer ? Do you have already install Jahia as I'd like to do ?

Second question : I used to develop on my local PC and when I'm ok with what I've done (with PHP sites) I transfer my code to the remote server.... How to manage that with Jahia ? Thanks to guide me to the part of doc I should read for these part....

Thanks in advance for you help. Please be indulgent with my english, it's not my native tongue (sorry... I'm french)

Re: Install on Linux with no GUI

Hello,

nice to here that you like the new version!

In order to install Jahia in a console mode (e.g. using an SSH session on a remote machine), you can execute the installer with the "-console" option, i.e:

java -jar Jahia_xCM_v6.5.0_r38205.jar -console

For installing Jahia with MySQL, you just need to select "Custom install (advanced)" option on the first steps of the installer to be able to customize the DBMS type and DB connection parameters.

There is also an option to install to an existing Tomcat server. If you "unselect" the "Apache Tomcat" package on the first steps, the installer will generate a WAR file, a ZIP file with shared libraries and a How-To install, which describes a step by step procedure of deploying Jahia into an existing Tomcat instance.

Kind regards

Sergiy

Phronexia, I wonder if you got an answer to your second question. I am in the same situatuion as you. I develop code in PHP on our DEV environment and after it tested we need to move that to our Production environment, but for now we did not find the solution to transfer the code to the produciton environment. If you have an answer I appreciate if you can share it with me.

    Thanks

For deployment it really depends what you are working on :

    - For content : the best option is to use import/export functionality to move content from your local machine to the production one

    - For code(modules) : simply develop your module locally, then export it as a WAR and deploy it on your production server by copying it in the WEB-INF/var/shared_modules directory. Please refer to the documentation (in the community section) for more help on developing modules.

    Best regards,

      Serge Huber.

How to install Jahia 6.6.2.5 into linux with automatic script with an external Tomcat 7

    by  Michel »  2014/06/11 12:52

What is the correct value to put for the parameter:

    <installpath>/var/lib/tomcat</installpath>

I try also to uninstall my first installation in console mode with the following command :

    java -jar /usr/local/Ent-Jahia_xCM_v6.6.2.5/uninstaller/uninstaller.jar

but I have the following message:

Error: Invalid or corrupt jarfile /usr/local/Ent-Jahia_xCM_v6.6.2.5/uninstaller/uninstaller

I don't find a procedure to uninstall properly the product.

    Regards,

    Michel
