Re: A tutorial on how to create a simple website from an empty project?

Hello Pierre,

did you have a look on our videos on Youtube? For example we have this one, that is a quick introduction to content creation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5RkDtU8cJc

If you speak French, our CTO recently released a video covering a lot about Jahia for beginners: http://jahia.developpez.com/tutoriel-video/java/cms-jahia/webinar-special-dvp/

And I don't know if you've had a look at the JahiaPedia here: http://www.jahia.com/community/documentation/jahiapedia/

It's not sure you will find a detailed example for every step you're mentioning but we keep improving our documentation and we'll take every feedback you could give us in account. Also, do not hesitate to ask on this forum, the Jahia team and community are very active and will surely have an answer for you.

Have fun with Jahia!

Cheers,

Guillaume

    Hi Guillaume

    Hi Guillaume,

thanks for your answer. Yes I saw a lot of content on the internet and they all use the ACME basis in there tutorial.

What I was not able to do, was to start from an empty jahia project, apply a template (try to modify it a little to my taste) and start building my website from there.

Maybe I did not try hard enough, but it seems to me that having a tutorial on how to start to construct a website with jahia from an empty project could be a great tutorial for the noobs like me.

It the kind of tutorial that I find a lot for CMS like Drupal or Joomla... I would have liked something similar.

I even wonder if I will need to follow some Drupal tutorials to try to apply what I learn from simply using the CMS to Jahia. Could it helped to do so?

Thanks Pierre, I will forward your feedback to the documentation team and we will try to provide more basic examples and starters in the future.

One last link just in case: http://www.jahia.com/download-develop/jahia-academy/quick-start-videos It has some examples on how to create a site and manage content.

What you could do is use the studio to duplicate the web-blue templates set and start to modify it (move blocks, export the jar and look at its content), then create an empty site using it (when you create an new templates set in the studio it becomes available in the site creation form). Have you used the studio already, for example to modify the web-blue templates set, which is used in Acme but that you can use in your own site too?

I'm not really familiar with Drupal so I can't really tell if following their tutorials would be helpful with Jahia. Even though our documentation as a lack of starters and beginners example, Jahia is really easy to start with and you will quickly become comfortable with the basic feature, like using modules.

Do not hesitate to use this forum to ask about every difficulties you could have so we can help you and  figure out where are the lacks of documentation.

    Thanks Guillaume,

the video links you posted are very informative and I'll try to dig a little bit more to learn how I can make simple website using jahia.

Yes, I think it is a good idea to have a quickstart that start from the empty project and not the ACMD.

I don't like the fact that I need to start from the ACMD project to make my own website, sorry.

Of course if I use a CMS it is because I want to use already created templates, etc... but I would have liked a video tutorial about how you can modify the layout of your website with few click and drag and drop.

As I said I did not try hard enough. I will spend more time on jahia to understand how it works.

    Thanks.

    How to manage JSON

    by  hadrien.chapel@amadeus.com »  2017/12/13 10:38

    Hello,

I don't understand the workflow with jahia. I watched your videos but still not understand how to create/request data from my jahia website..
    I explain what i need:

    1st I got a UI made in javascript/html/css.

Now I want to create a site were I can put data of contents, configuration/settings for the app, and user authentication.

So, I create my own site, adding a page (homepage) and some content, but now I need to request jahia to get data from this content, and I don't understand at all how I can do this.. I just want to see what JSON is created for this page, and where I can request it (http://myserver:myport/jahia/cms/??/???/???/??/home ?
I tested some combinaison of URLs i found in jahia documentation, but nothing work, can't access any data. I found nothing about it on the web, and the Jahia DX manager UI is not really helping..

It is possible to give me a step-by-step process to: Create site -> adding page -> adding content -> publish/activate? this content on my server and what URL to request to get JSON data from this content on my page.

    Thanks,
    Hadrien
