Mobile rendering

by  nkumar »  2011/06/07 18:02

Hi
Is there any particular reason why Jahia focuses only around iPhone for mobile rendering? (My understanding of your support for iPhone is based on some of Jahia 6 and 6.5 documents.)
Do you have any plans to come up with a more generic design approach for mobile rendering OR at least additional support for Andriod devices?
Thanks
Nitin

    Hello Nitin,

It's mostly because I have an iPhone smiley

More seriously, although we have most examples with iPhones, it is perfectly possible to build equivalents for other mobile platforms. For example the user agent detection can be setup to detect any mobile browser, and the REST API in 6.5 is not specific to any device.

As for the development of native clients for the mobile platforms, this is something that for the moment we view mostly as a service offering, and have not (yet) had any demands for it, as it seems that integrators either provide their own services here.

    Regards,
    Serge Huber.

I have to two question regarding the mobile support in version 6.5.

First off all, is there a manual somewhere to create mobile templates? I can't find it anywhere in the admin console etc to create a mobile template for the website...

Secondly, when I deployed the server I found a JS file in which you check the user agent to look for the platform The JS file I'm talking about is D:\Jahia_6_5\tomcat\webapps\ROOT\iphone\Action\Logic.js. And more specifically I'm talking about the those lines of code:

    with(navigator.userAgent)
    return(indexOf("iPhone")+indexOf("iPod")+indexOf("Aspen")>-3);

Is that indeed the file/place to be to built in Android support?

    Kr,

    Dirk
