Jahia 6.5 build jar : error at step 15/17

by  sdenef »  2011/06/07 17:54

Hi,

I just download and run Jahia CE Beta 6.5 build (.jar for Linux / MacOs X)

( I'm under Windows but I don't like 'exe' files  )

First it's a great installation process and I like it. It's easier for starting with Jahia than read a lot of documentation and modify a lot of config files.

But for me the process is blocked at step 15 with the message :

Neither the JAVA_HOME nor the JRE_HOME environment variable is defined

At least one of these environment variable is needed to run this program

It's right, usually I write batch file for each application (and version) that sets needed environment variables.

But I can't do anything else than quit. I don't know what are step 16 and step 17 so I don't know if the step 15 is sufficient and if miss something important.

I think it would be better to be able to skip "Launch Jahia" step if this message appear. And then go to the end of the installation process.

Regards,

Sébastien

    Hello Sébastien,

could you, please, check if you have either of two environment variables set "JAVA_HOME" or "JRE_HOME"?
Which version of Java you are using for launching the installer JAR file?

    Thank you in advance!

    Kind regards
    Sergiy

you have to define java_home and path for java.
    example
    java_home=c:\java
    path c:\%JAVA_HOME%\bin

in my first try I took same warning after I defined above parameter no warning and run.
I solved this problem , I try to make tree menu on the left panel for news but ı could not it.
no any video or document how to.....
    just new features

    Hi Sergiy,

No I don't have any of these variables set. Like I said :

It's right, usually I write batch file for each application (and version) that sets needed environment variables.

@erdum: I know I can set JAVA_HOME (or JRE_HOME) to avoid this message (I'm not english fluent, but I understand it  ) but for me it's not just a "warning" because the process is blocked if you have this message. And that's I think it's not good.

    Sergiy,

I don't want to say that the error message is bad because it's right. But what I want to say is : when this error message appears, the user can't do anything except quit the process. And then he can't know if the last steps are important or not. So he quits, he sets the variables, and redo the entire install process.

I think, if this message appears, it's better to stop the launch of Jahia, and prompt the user "You can finish the installation process, but can't run Jahia. Set either JAVA_HOME or JRE_HOME after the installation to be able to launch Jahia". Then allow "Next" button to go to step 16 and 17.
