Can not see jahia customized template

by  hhe »  2011/06/30 15:37

Hello,

After created a new template set by Jahia Studio, then I created a few new customized templates under the new template set and deployed them, but all the

new templates are not visible when I switch to "Edit Mode" and try to use them, did I miss some steps ? I can't find answer from the current documentation.

Thanks for any feedback.

Hong

    Hello Hong,
    1.  Are you certain that the correct template set is being used by your virtual site?
    2.  Assuming 1 is true, did you reload the edit interface?  Sometimes things don't appear right away...
Otherwise, I would need more details about the process you used, such as how you assessed that templates were not available in edit mode.
    Cheers,
    Denis

Thanks Denis for your quick response.
    1. Yes,  i am sure the correct template set is being used by my new virtual site,  this can be proved by checking the "web project list".
    2. Is the the edit interface = edit mode ?  if it's true, i did the reloading edit interface just by switching  to "Edit Mode"

Just to make my point clearer, I created some customized content template, such as custom search, search result, those new create content-template can not be found when I try to use them to fill the content area.

    Regards,

    Hong

Just to make my point clearer, I created some customized content template, such as custom search, search result, those new create content-template can not be found when I try to use them to fill the content area.

    Hello Hong,

I think the key issue here is that you created content templates.  I will try to clarify the difference between a content template and a page template.

If you want to create a new template for a page, and be able to see it in the options for the page template when you edit the page properties (i.e. right-click the page in the site tree and click edit), then you need a page template.  This type of template defines the areas where you can then add content in edit mode for a page.

However, if you are trying to create a template to render some custom node (for example a news item), then you may want a content template.  When you create this template, make sure to select the type of content it can be used to render and set it to be allowable as default for that content.  You can view and change this info in the template's "edit" interface within the studio.  When you link to the node itself within the site, the default content template for the node type will be used to render it.  Alternately, you can set a different template to be used instead if you want (at the node level, i believe).

To adress your custom search and results pages, I would suggest you take a look at the Templates Web Blue template set in the studio.  Specifically, take a look at the pages tab (left column, right-most tab) for the template set and expand the site to expose the prepackaged pages.  I haven't done this personally, but you should then be able to use a prepackaged page for your needs.  In general, your search results themselves will likely be modules with .jsp views if you want them to show up differently than in the available look and feel.  You may also be able to simply skin them or change the css to adjust the look if the info included is satisfactory for your needs.

Anyhow, hope this helps.  Feel free if you have other questions.

    Cheers,

    Denis

    Hello Denis,
First of all, thank you very much for your detailed explanation.
Basically from the documentation published on Jahia web site, my understanding is that end user can use the prepackaged template set to render most of pages. The customized template is created only on some special cases, for example, if the user want to create different content template to render a news content(node),  at this case what option I should go with?

Such as,  option 1 : do I need to create a new template set ?
Option 2 : or just use a existing template set and add one more content template to the existing template set, such as Templates Web Blue template set ?

Since  Jahia 6.5 is quite different from Jahia 5, and there are some new concepts in Jahia 6.5,  I still have a couple of questions need to clarify, so if it is possible for me to make a call to you at your convenient time.

    Thanks in advance,

    Hong
