All the default modules, and styles, how to manage?

by  madsbuus »  2011/06/07 18:01

Jahia 6.5 is quite technical IMO. The possibilities are endless and very flexible indeed.

Should editors really be presented with such a large set of content types to choose from?
Furthermore, many of the types are actually quite 'proof-o-content' style, with poor translations, hardcoded graphics etc. that makes them interesting, but not useful on a site other than ACME laugh

Some of them are very cool, but maybe just needs a translation changes to the properties bundle.

How should a website developer go about this?

Managing a lot of changes to a lot of modules, many of which will probably be updated several times before release.

SVN branching every module?

Is is possible to create my own module containing resource translations for existing modules?

Can 'views' or 'skins' be limited or changed without modifying the core code?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Mads Buus Westmark

    Hello,

Thank for for testing Jahia 6.5 . It is indeed quite powerful :)

We are currently reviewing all the modules and will not package all of them out of the box as we did with the beta, for some of the reasons you have identified.

We do not recommend forking modules, as it is possible to "extend" them by subclassing them. One module can actually add views for another module. On the resource bundle side I'm not sure, I'd have to check if it's possible to extend from one module to another. But for views, skins, actions, custom code, you can extend what other modules do.

    Best regards,
    Serge Huber.

    Thanks Serge,

I will try to see what works when extending them, and perhaps move away the war-files that I won't need for the site.

    Regards,
    Mads
