versioning broken in Jahia 6.1

by  surajz »  2011/06/07 20:44

Jahia versioning does not work on 6.1.

On 6.0 you could roll back to an older version, but on 6.1 there is no option to roll back to any version.

    Hello,

I have just checked in on the demo site and versionning seems to work on 6.1. I could roll back at former versions different contents. AFAIK nothing change on the versionning at the content level between 6.0 and 6.1.

But 6.1 introduce something new: the ability to view the page of former versions (and not the container which could be not only viewed but also restored). Before the 6.1, it was not possible to view the former versions of a page (but only at the container level), so maybe this is confusing now for someone who is used working with the 6.0.

Anyway: if you still can't roll back a content, please describe more in details what happened during the roll back process.

    Tristan

    1. created a new website using web template
    2. Add content in the text box.
    3. publish the website from the workflow
    4. edit the text in text box
    5. publish the website from the workflow

Now, go to 'Page Setting' --> tools -->versioning

I can see the revisions list, but I don't see any option to roll back, please see the attached image.

    Hi Surajz,

That's exactly what I wrote: you cannot rollback at the page level but you can see the revisions. You can only roll back at the content level.

If you click to the content you have modified, and then "update content", and "tools" and "content versioning", you will be able to click on "restore" to re-publish an older version of your content.

But how do you roll back the deleted page.

(when the page is deleted you don't get that option, you can only view it from the parent page by selecting 'view deleted page')

    Thanks

    Hi,

OK I wrote it twice, but I can write it a third time laugh : you cannot roll back at the page level, you can only view it. You can roll back at the content level only.

    Hi Suraj,

Just for you to understand why Jahia 6.1 is designed so that you can rollback content elements individually, as opposed to the full page: Rolling back content elements is more granular and allows editors to determine very specifically what version of what content element they want to roll back. A Jahia page is just a container of content elements, therefore it is useful to see a status of a page in the past (or even in the future): but when it comes to actually rolling content back, getting to pick individual content elements gives the editor more flexibility.

If your page is granular (a page with of more than one content object), then it is difficult to roll back content to a consistent state.
