Tagging on Contributed Folder --> Files and images on upload

by  radhikakush »  2013/02/19 07:02

Hello!

Is there any way to set automatic tagging on upload of images into Files Manager?

I am looking for a way to add tags on upload of images into contribute folder. for example there is a PeopleImage folder with "People" tag associated with it. when user upload any other image in PeopleImage folder then all the images in that folder should have the same tags and categories as parent folder.

I have been searching through the documentations/forums and demo site, but so far I didn't find a way to acheive this.

any hints/tips for me?

Thanks in Advance!

Hi Radhika . we've done a nice and simple prototype that respond to that kind of needs a while ago. This is based on rules as Ries suggested it in his post. We never released the module officially because we wanted to do some more enheancements before, but since that time we always had more pressing subjects to deal with and as it exist and can provide some benefits to one of our customers, here it is.

You can find the module code source here https://github.com/shyrkov/DAM-doc-rules.git

Basically : It adds a new tab named "rules" in the document manager in which you can choose which rule must be applied on incoming documents in the current folder, from transformation to a pdf, to an email notification and also auto-tagging . I'm pretty sure that with a very little amount of work you'll be able to adapt the auto-tagging rule to your exact needs (currently you have to type the tags you want to apply on the documents in a field, it doesn't take the tags applied on the folder), or even add other rules. Please, if you develop new interseting rules, share them with the community.

As explained this module is provied "as it is" with no warranties nor official support, this is a community effort. Neverthless it has been tested succesfully with Jahia 6.6, there are no reasons it shouldn't work with the most recente releases.

We've done a video to show how the module work (very simple, by the way) and I'll try to post it in our "Labs" section this week. As soon as this will be posted I'll tell you in this forum thread, but you can grab the module, compile it and test it right now.

    Regards

That's pretty sweet! I will keep this module in mind and I properly need this myself soon.

    Hi,

I can think of one approach through which this functionality can be achieved.

    1) Create a action class(Spring bean) which would listen to the event (file create). This action should be executed through a Drools rule. The rule should look like:

       rule "Add Category"

        when
              A new node is created
              - the node has the type jnt:file
        then
Log "A File has been uploaded"
Execute the action "addCategory" now on the node
        end

    2) The category association would happen through the java code written in the action class. Refer to the "CategoryService" class in the java docs @ http://www.jahia.com/downloads/jahia/jahia6.6.1/jahia-root-6.6.1.0-aggregate-javadoc/org/jahia/services/categories/CategoryService.html

Please let me know if you have any further queries in this regard.

    Thanks,
    Namit

Hi, sorry for the delay I totaly forgot to upload the Video as promised.

Here it is, even if I think you've already downloaded the module to see how to use it since that time.
