Java Struts and Jahia

by  santinello »  2012/03/27 16:57

Hi,

Hoping you guys can help me out with this one.

I have a web application designed in Struts using MVC.  My client would like to implement a CMS tool.   While doing my research it appears CMS tools are web frameworks much like Struts.  You can either use Struts for you web application or a CMS (like Drupal/Jahia)? They really want to use Drupal and it appears this would require a redesign of the application to use Drupal.

I really don't want to do a redesign; and I was hoping (because of it's Java nature) that I could use Jahia to implement a CMS?

Is it possible to use Struts and Jahia together?    That way I won't have to do a redesign; and my client can use the CMS features of Jahia?     Any suggestions?  Is it possible?

If you can't do this with Jahia...do you recommened any other CMS tool that can be integrated with STRUTS?

Thanks for you help and advice,

Tony

    Hello Tony,

I understand that it is in your interest to choose a Java based CMS versus a CMS based on a scripting language such as PHP.
Integrating Struts with Jahia is totally possible. The question would be how deep do you want this integration to be.
The fastest and easiest way would probably to use the REST API which provides Jahia a smooth integration with webservices.
Jahia also supports third party applications through portlets and Jahia components. As you are using a Struts MVC framework, this integration would fully integrate your web applications within Jahia. They would then be managed as Jahia content and benefit from all the core feature that the Jahia platform provides.
