Web application to surface contents managed by Jahia

by  laiyhman »  2012/04/16 03:51

Hi,
This is what i'm trying to do,
i will use Jahia to create/edit/delete contents, and use my own Java Web Application to surface those contents, may be via a connection to the content repository using api, together with my own dynamic contents from database.
Can anyone point me to the right direction? Any online guides about this?

Thanks.

    Hi,

The first things to understand are the basic Jahia concepts. You can read a very high overview in the templating guide (https://www.jahia.com/cms/home/community/documentation/templating-and-integration-guide.html Part 1, concepts – Part 4 content Definitions and views), then you should start digging into technical details in the Jahiapedia

    -       Nodetypes (abstract content structures) and nodes (content items, instances of nodetypes) https://www.jahia.com/community/documentation/jahiapedia-v6_6/definitions/definitions.html

    -       Content Views and the rendering mechanism. In the templating guide https://www.jahia.com/cms/fr/home/community/documentation/templating-and-integration-guide/part-4-content-definitions-and-v.html and in the Jahiapedia https://www.jahia.com/community/documentation/jahiapedia-v6_6/render/render.html

To use the content created inside Jahia in your own Java Web Application, there are several possibilities. Depending on what you want to achieve, how and where the content is formatted, and how deep the JWA and Jahia must interact (is the JWA only a consumer, or also an entry point for content, forms, etc.) you can:

    -       Directly call for the desired format (html, xml, rss, raw data…) by creating the Views inside Jahia and simply calling those through standard urls.

    -       Use the REST API https://www.jahia.com/community/documentation/jahiapedia-v6_6/jahia-modules/rest.html

    -       Use the JCR API https://www.jahia.com/community/documentation/jahiapedia-v6_6/development/how-to_jcrcontent.html

    -       Even code your own actions https://www.jahia.com/community/documentation/jahiapedia-v6_6/index.html

It is difficult to guide you further without details about what you want to achieve. Give us a bit more details if possible and we’ll try to give you more info.

    Hi,

I believe this is covered in part 3 of the Templating and Integration Guide. Template sets can either be created in the Jahia Studio or in your IDE. There is even a specific chapter on creating them with Eclipse.

    Hi

We have done this is one of our projects but by reversing the approach i.e. we build layout, pages and content with Jahia. When it comes to getting data from our custom database, we've created Jahia modules which are effectivey JSPs using JSTL and sql to display data. The modules are completely re-usable and truly modular i.e. they are draggable to any page or any area across the site.

    I hope this helps.

    All the best
