Jahia cluster without sticky sessions ; could the Jahia HTTP session be serialized ?

by  Damien »  2014/10/14 07:37

Good morning,

We are looking for installing a Jahia cluster on two Tomcats, so we look upon the clustering guide here :

http://www.jahia.com/files/live/sites/jahiacom/files/Resources/docs/6.6/6.61/en/Jahia6.61_Configuration-fine-tuning.pdf

This documentation explains that the load balancer must be session affinity (§ 4.3.4 Sticky sessions) ; but in our cluster, we want to replicate all sessions to all Tomcat nodes (we will have a few nodes, probably 2 or 3 nodes) with the Tomcat DeltaManager. So this will avoid to have a single point of failure for a given session. But to do that, we have to ensure that the Jahia HTTP session is fully serializable ; so my question is, could the Jahia HTTP session be serialized ?

I find out a JIRA issue dealing with this question : https://jira.jahia.org/browse/JAHIA-1633. But this issue is opened for 7 years, and has been updated 3 years ago ; so I'm not sure that it is on the product backlog.

Thank you.

Hello Damien,

with Jahia 6 you cannot use sticky sessions, because the sessions are not fully serializable in that version, but you can use Jahia 7, where we worked on that issue and made the session fully serializable.

Thank you Benjamin,

For this time we are using Jahia 6, so we will use the session affinity on our httpd. We also plan to migrate to Jahia 7 mid-2015, so your answer meet our need ; we will use session replication then.

Have a nice day !
