Help required with import/export

by  namitgupta »  2012/11/27 10:53

Hi All,

We have a requirement of exporting the entire site from one environment and then importing it onto another environment. However, we have considerable number of files in the Document Manager, which increases the size of the export package to ~500 MB, which is slightly inconvinient to import.

I would like to know the way to import the entire content of the site except for the Documents. I am aware of the individual page export functionality available in edit mode. However, the issue with this approach is that it requires a considerable manual effort select and export each page.

Please let me know your thoughts on this.

Regards,

Namit

Hi. does this replication must be done on a regular basis and for the complete site each time ?

If you try to import/export only the pages, but not the documents that those pages may link to, how can you garantee that you don't have broken links and so on. That's why when exporting a site, Jahia export all the content inside it by default, pages, content items, files and all other stuff that makes the site coherent and complete.

If your need is to move content from one environnement (let's say "stagi,g") to another physically separate environment (let's say "production"), you should consider the distant publishing feature (In Entreprise Jahia only).  In this case the fisrt publication (somehow similar to import export) will take some time to execute, but after that ecah new publication will only transfer the changes, and will be then much lighter.

If you can give us a bit more info about what you're trying to achieve maybe it will be easier to help you. Understandig the question, most of the time gives 85% of the correct answer ;-)
