Disable lucene indexing and enable external

by  mcammisa »  2013/05/27 16:04

Hi, I'm new in Jahia and I'm wondering if there is a way to index the content of the site in the same way that Jahia does with Lucene, but with a different search engine. Is it possible?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, you could use another search engine similar to Lucene (full text search) but it's not a trivial thing to implement as you wouldalso  need to manage the ACLs (meaning that each time a content is indexed you must also index the acls to avoid showing a protected content in a search result). Another approach,e asier tom implement if your site does not have protected content, is to use a crawler based search engine (like nutch) becaus ethe crawler will just crawl published pages and create its own index without needing a tight integration with Jahia (similar to how google works).

The real question is, why do you need to use another search engine than the one embedded and ready to use provided in Jahia, what is missing in your opinion to justify that ?

By the way, disabling Lucene indexation is not possible. Lucene is packaged with Jackrabbit which relies on it for internal operations. So you can imagine to have a second search engine to repsond to front end (visitors) requests, but you will have to let Lucene do his work at the same time.
