Content organisation and reuse of content on multiple pages

by  stefanhenze »  2011/06/07 18:32

Hello,

I'm very new to Jahia and I'm just wondering if it fits my needs. We need to store loads of content and want to switch on and off content from time to time. We'd also like to use the exact same content on different pages, e.g. a teaser of an announcement. I spent some time with Jahia and didn't find a content browser or the ability to use content from other pages. Is this possible somehow?

Much appreciated,
Stefan

Hello,

If you're talking about Jahia 5, several features may answer your questions:
-scheduled publishing allow you to have a content published at specific times, wich would be equivalent to 'switching off' content
-the contentPicker makes possible to use a content from another page. It creates a linked copy of this content so that when the original content is modified, every copy of it is modified too. To use the contentPicker you must use the same content type: you can 'link copy' a news content to another news content.

    Hello Alexis,

I tried Jahia 6. But I guess it has at least the same features.

If I get you right, there is no way to examine and maintain a content structure that is separate from the page structure. Is this correct? Is it somehow possible to have one person creating content and another person placing the content on the appropriate page?

    Stefan,

You can copy/paste content: either in a static way, i.e. a content store somewhere in a page is paste somewhere else as it is and won't evolve or you can paste it dynamically, i.e. if the source content change, it will change every where.

Please read also page 66-67 of the end user manual of Jahia 6 available on the extranet for more actions on content.

So basically for your need, you can create a content in a page with limited rights, so that just the editor(s) can get access to it, then paste it somewhere whenever required.

second requirement: maybe all you want to do it /1. This feature is also available and you can scheduled when the content is starting to be live and when it is no more (page 71 of the end user manual)

Can you explain what you mean by the /1 Is this the file manager?

I need to understand as we wish to use links to one edition of the file, so that updates are required only once.

Also, What is the purpose of the page helper, I have 5.05 and the documentation has no explanation of this feature

    Thanks
    -Jim
