"Contact us"- form

by  benjaminjenni »  2013/10/01 07:27

Hello,

I actually have to make a website on which there should be a contact form, where the customer can write his name, lastname,  e-mail, the subject and the message.  It should be possible that the customer can write a mail directly from our website to my boss and it should look like the "Contact us"- site from Jahia.

I already found out how to make a link for an e-mail but it isn't the best solution for us. (It still opens a separated window.) I tried to insert the "contact form" but it isn't what I really need.

Can anyone tell me how I can do this? I hope it 's clear what I mean.

Hello Benjamin,

the "Contact us" form on Jahia.com is actually a Contact form component, could you tell me what was missing in this component for you?

You can use the "Custom form" component, where you'll be able to add every field you would need and to choose the action "Send data to an email address" to get a notification every time a user fills and submits the form.

Hope it helps.

Best regards,

Guillaume

    Hello Guillaume,

Already now thanks for the help! The "Jahia- Contact us" would theoretically exactly be what I need... I found all I need (except a field where the customer can add his own email) in the "Contact form" which I added now but...

I chose the components in my "Contact form" which I want. (Firstname, Lastname, Title, Occupation, Remarks and Captcha) The E-mail field not yet... (Could this maybe be the "Address"- component?)

When I try to fill in now some Data, it doesn't work. (Is the problem maybe, that I'm in the "Preview" mode and not "live"?)

I also can't find the "Custom form" component you described, where I could add the "send mail"- component. Where can I find this?

    Regards..

I think it would be the "Contact" field, but I quickly tried and it didn't appear in the form. Could you please try? Let me know and if it doesn't work I'll look further at the issue.

Did you enable the email server in the Administration?

I also can't find the "Custom form" component you described, where I could add the "send mail"- component. Where can I find this?

Sorry I forgot, you first need to deploy the "Jahia Form builder" module from the Administration - Manage modules, to your site.

I chose now the "Contact" but in my form it didn't appear too.

I went to the "E-mail settings", I activated the service and filled in my Datas in the gaps. After testing I got a mail from Jahia -> "This is an e-mail message sent automatically by portal server while testing the e-mail server settings." Is this what you meant by enable my mail server? If it was that, it worked.

I looked up my modules at "Manage modules" but at the moment I only have the following:

Template set: Jahia Web Templates (1.3)
    Modules (JahiApp): none
    Modules (Module): Jahia Article (1.2)
    Jahia Contact (1.2)
    Default Jahia Templates (6.6.1.0)
    Jahia Location (1.3)
    Jahia Search (6.6.1.0)
    Modules (My Space): none

How/ where can I deploy the "Jahia Form Builder"?

    Regards :)

    Yes, exactly.

Sorry my bad, the panel I was talking about is only in the Enterprise edition.

How/ where can I deploy the "Jahia Form Builder"?

You can go in the Studio, in the dropdowns on the left menu find find the Form builder module and then deploy it to your site (top menu).

However, I've found and fixed the issue on the contact form , you can find the source code here: https://github.com/Jahia/contact/commit/c6c4feab3cbca8f6f5ed377173545a22fc88befd

That may be an easier solution than building your form from scratch.

I went now to the studio and I added the "Jahia Form Builder." Then I made a "Custom form." I saw now how I can build my own "Contact". Until now it is great! Thanks a lot!

The only problem  I have is, that I can't fill in anything in the fields. Do you know why I can't? (I tried it in the "Preview"-mode.)

Thank you very much for the code and for your work! But I don't know how I can use it... Could you tell me how? I know it actually doesn't matter so much any more, but maybe I could use it maybe in the future for a few other websites. :)

I'm sorry but I haven't made yet a lot with Jahia so I have to ask many things. ;)

    Best regards.

    Hey Benjamin,

you have a lot of documentation available on the website, have you checked it out already? Here is the developers doc: https://www.jahia.com/files/live/sites/jahiacom/files/documentation/6.61/fr/Jahia6.61_TechnicalOverview.pdf

If you'd like a quick training or demo we can also set up an appointement, feel free to contact us for more details. That's the best way to quickly learn about everything that Jahia has to offer.

The Github repository simply contains a Maven project that you can build (mvn compile) and deploy to your Jahia. Look at the documentation for more information about module development.

Fields in the custom form are disabled in Edit/Preview mode but they are not in Live, then they should work once you publish your page.

    Guillaume
