Jahia the Open Source Web Content Management (WCM) for high-end deployments

Jahia's Licensing Policy

In 2002, Jahia implemented a unique licensing scheme with Open Source principles in mind, that formed the foundations of its fair and sustainable business model and growing community. Today, Jahia combines dual licensing with a guaranteed software contribution program that strengthens the idea of giving back to the Jahia community.

Sustainable Dual Licensing

What makes Jahia's model unique when compared with the dual licensing approach of other Free and Open Source Software vendors, is that Jahia provides incentives for the contributions of its Community and Enterprise customers. Ultimately, these incentives allow users of both Jahia Enterprise and Community Editions to benefit from both parties contributions and a constantly growing code-base. This option is the reason why Jahia calls its permissive commercial license the "Jahia Sustainable Enterprise License" and its overall licensing scheme "Sustainable Dual Licensing".

Jahia feels that this unique yet proven approach towards vendor-backed Open Source software, combines the best of both worlds in the most effective way, namely the Open Source development model, plus a fully supported software edition where contributions are always being rewarded.

Choosing the Best License

Jahia Community Edition for Open Source Applications

For developers of Free Open Source Software applications under the GPL who wish to combine and distribute those applications with Jahia software, Jahia Open Source software licensed under the GPL is the best option, i.e. Jahia Community Edition.

The GPL requires that work derived from GPL-licensed software also be licensed under GPL. The GPL is straightforward with contributing back to the community.

Jahia Enterprise Edition for Commercial and Supported Applications

Integrators, distributors and customers who wish to combine and distribute commercially licensed software with Jahia software and do not wish to distribute the source code for the commercially licensed software under the GPL must enter into a Jahia Sustainable Enterprise License (JSEL) agreement with Jahia.

The same applies to Jahia customers who wish to enter a Service Level Agreement with Jahia to benefit from Professional Support.

The Jahia Sustainable Enterprise License (JSEL) allows project managers, integrators and software vendors who need production guaranty and development support without code sharing obligation. They can also get additionnal benefits by financing Jahia software enhancement or being long term subscribers follwoing the principles of the Contribute or Pay paradigm.
