Create New Content

To create new content depending on your preferences, you can select in the page where this content should appear, then click on the green button or use the Selector to select the type of content you want first, then drag and drop the icon representing this type of content into the page at the desired place.

In both cases, an engine will pop-up, exactly the same engine as when editing content, but the fields will be empty as this content does not exist yet.

In the News page, at the bottom of the news list, there is a “News entry” button. This means that when you click on that button, a content type of “News entry” will be created. In other pages, you may see “Any content” as a label, meaning that any kind of content can be created in that area.

Let’s click on that “News entry” button.

Just fill in the fields with the desired values and click on Save. The engine will disappears, and your page appears once again with the content you have created at the top of the list.

When no ordering has been defined, new content appears at the bottom of the list. However in this page the list that surrounds the content imposes an ordering. To change that ordering, you can select the list itself (the border should surround all the news items), then edit it. The second tab for lists objects is named “List ordering”

If you open the list Engine and then this tab, you will see that the ordering is done by Date in a descending order (the most recent at the top). That is why the news we’ve just added appears at the top of the list.

Here you can change the automatic ordering. Automatic ordering can be done using three fields to allow very precise orders. Or you can activate the manual ordering and order the news as you want.

Let’s create a bit more content in the website

Go into the Activities page and try to insert “rich text” in the central column. You can enter dummy text, this exercise is just here to show you that for each content type, Jahia will draw a different input form, and so that we will have some items to manipulate later.

Once you’ve added the rich text, we may want to put content in the right column of that page. Right now, there is a white and blue area in this column. This symbolizes an area available to receive content, but currently empty.

You can create content in this area by hitting the “Any content” button or by draging and dropping a component from the Selector to the area.

For instance, add a “Main content” to this column, give this content a title like “Test Content” and save it.

We will now add an image into the right column.

You can drag and drop the “Image (from the Document Manager)" component into the column. An engine then appears.

You can use the Image Picker to point to the image in the Document Manager, and fill in the alternate text field.

The Image Picker lets you browse the dedicated part of the site repository where binaries are stored. The left panel has navigation tree, the right panel lists the sub-items of the folder selected on the left.

As we’ve open the Image Picker, only images will be displayed in the right panel, and not the other type of files that may exist here.

Select an image in the right panel (or upload a new one) then click on Save.

Once you’ve added the “Main content” and an image, your Activities page should look something like this

Another possibility is to use the Selector in the fourth tab, which also allows you to browse the Document Manager, then drag and drop an image onto the page.

In that case, when you drop the image, Jahia will open a dialog to determine exactly how you want to insert that image (just the image, the image with an external link on it, with an internal link on it or as a file link).

How you choose to insert the image in the page is just the same, it is only a matter of preference of how you want to use Jahia.
