Insert a Google Map

Let’s say you have a content item talking about a new contract in Klagenfurt, Austria. Not everybody knows where Klagenfurt is, so you want to show it on a map.

First, edit your Content by checking the Locations box under the “Options” tab, then enter Klagenfurt in the Town field and select Austria in the Country field.

Next, go into the Selector and type in “map” in the above field to filter the list of available content types. Or you can open the “Site Components” section, then drag-and-drop the “Map (static)” component underneath the Klagenfurt related content.

Then validate the Map Engine when it appears (you do not need to change any parameter - you can, but it is not required).

Once the Engine is closed, the component appears like this:

What we want to do now is to say that this component should display the location defined above. Click on the pin icon and your cursor will changed to this icon . Now click on the Klagenfurt content, and your map will be displayed!

You have now discovered what we at Jahia call “Bound Components” - components that can interact with other items and execute any kind of action automatically.

There are plenty of components such as this provided out-of-the-box with Jahia 6.6 that you can use, or customize for your own needs. You can also create new components to extend the platform and share them on the Jahia Forge (http://www.jahia.com/forge).
